I have measurements of it, Turning a 2-way into a 3-way

Not as detailed (the measurements) as I need them but there was a problem with the pair of Seas aluminium woofers that Falcon Acoustics sold me and claimed they were within factory specs and they were way off which put the project on hold. I will have it further developed in a matter of weeks as I got a new pair of L22rnx/p and will be rerouting the speakers (need to extend the countersink with 2mm to fit the new ones) so will provide more detailed measurements done properly (so not indoors) and listening impressions.

I wondered what happened to that project. I'm glad that it will continue to develop.

Following. OP - what are your plans for mid/woofer/enclosure?

Got a plan brewing for an active 3/4 way and minidsp crossover. Looking for a speaker that can produced dynamic/fast bass (not necessarily sub woofer deep) that starts and stops quickly as I tend to listen to dynamic music (mainly prog metal / Djent / Prog Rock / Melodeath etc.) but also want a wide soundstage to separate the instruments as production on some of this type of music can be fairly compact (being polite!).
  • SB26CDC for tweeter (lover the metal tweeter in my Mackie HR824 actives and they way cymbals and rim shots are produced)
  • Dual ES180TiA woofers (or possibly Anarchy 708 if they come back in stock and tax/shipping is not prohibitive) in a shared 40l reflex floor standing box tuned to mid-low 30's
  • Plus a mid, one from the following - EM1308 (xover approx. 750/4k, easy install no chamber needed), W4-1337SA (xover approx. 350/3.5k, 4" should help beaming, used successfully in Speaker Design Works units), either MR13P-4 or NE123w-4 or 10F4424 (xover approx. 300/3k, slightly larger but all get good comments on here).

Not decided on the mid, still modelling (most work pretty well in an active situation with 24db slopes, using Boxsim v2.0 to model which has a decent active crossover model IMO) so any comments on which mid would work best with the SB26CDC crossed over at 3-4k would be very useful.

I have a pair of the SB Acoustics 5 inch ceramic mid-woofers, for which I have only heard positive comments from DIYers. Mine are the 8 ohm version. Several nice designs are up at Meniscus Audio, but they are for the 4 ohm versions. I am deciding what tweeters to mate with the ceramic mid woofer. The ceramic dome tweeter looks cool and is a nice aesthetic match, but I typically prefer silk or fabric domes over metal, but I have never heard ceramic. I was also contemplating a HiVi planar, the newer version of what you used on your Vijon, or maybe a ribbon.

There was a 5" ceramic paired with the RT1.3WE around this time last year by PWR RYD (PETT member), so you could look into that one.

The RT1.3 is still a very good tweeter!
Wolf

I'll add to Wolf's comments. Craig had his Keramiskas design at Iowa DIY last fall and it was an excellent sounding speaker. Very smooth, detailed and most of all it was very musical. Craig really did a nice job on them. Send him a PM on PE's Tech Talk forum and I suspect he'd be happy to share the design.

IMHO, the MR13P is the best, the NE123W is very good, and the W4-1337 is a distant third. Any of the mids you listed should work well with the SB26CDC .

Many thanks @joetekubi for the comment, seems to be consistent with other threads, any thoughts on the 10f, this does not seem to have the 1-2k “wiggle” that the others has.

The SS 10F has lots of fans, I haven't heard it.
The SB Satoris seem to have a bit better distortion performance. That matters a lot to me these days. But the SS 10f actually has a bit better waterfall.
