Should we use PCM1794A or PCM1795

Dear friends,

I'm new in DAC building and need your help. Now I'm considering to choose PCM1794A or PCM1795, single chip or dual chip for DAC, is dual PCM179x better than single chip? and PCM1794A vs PCM1795 which one is better performance?

Thank you all for reading this.

Performance numbers favour the '1794 - more output current hence lower noise, better digital filter.

If you're at all interested in how the thing sounds, be sure to investigate alternative output stages other than those shown in the TI applications.

I very much doubt that dual chip will sound better but that's just speculation on my part, I don't have experience with the chip myself. Best put some effort into the analog stage with a single chip I reckon. Dual mono might be able to give lower noise but the DAC noise is already well below that on any recording you can buy.

I have dual pcm1794, dual pcm1792 and dual 1795 and single 1795 with all the same tube output stage( 6n6p srpp stage at 200v) and i can not notice any difference in sound. The specs and measurements of the pcm1794 and pcm1792 are better but no difference in sound. So go for single pcm1795, this is a lot cheaper.
