Why on earth would you not go to something like AudioTool which is specialized
for this and whose reputation only rests on audio functionality?

Judging by the marketing nonsense, no its not accurate, they just say its accurate - for instance they claim its really accurate dB meter, indepedent of the phone its in!
That obviously incorrect statement doesn't bode well for any other claims.
Apps are at the mercy of the phone hardware and whether the phone OS reports accurately on the hardware's properties. Unless it has a facility for calibration, basically an app can't be used for audio measurement.
Particularly with phone microphones you are at the mercy of the noise-cancellation tech built into the phone which is designed - some phones are really aggressive at mucking up the signal like this. From what I recall not all phones allow this to be turned off, even though the API has a call to do this.
