Signal Injector

Hi there, I used to have a very simple signal injector which I bought from my local electronics store. Sadly the signal injector, and the electronics store, no longer exists.

Hence my query: -
This item was a one or two transistor unit which was mounted into a probe with a 1.5v battery. It functioned on about 1KHz with harmonics up to about 30Mhz(sounded terrible) but very useful for tracing signal paths in tuners, amps and testing random things!

It was partnered by a signal tracer(of similar description above) which featured a fet (high-impedance) front-end with a small audio amp and speaker. Does anyone know of a circuit diagram for the above species, which methinks, can easily be built onto Vero-board.
I know this is real low-tech , but should be fun to build!
Any-one help?
Regards.
