I have a pair of Tang Band W3-881SJF's and would like to find a single driver, full range speaker design with a little more low end extension than a simple ported box. These will be for a desktop and I'd like them to be small. Ideally, there would be no electronic components (although I'm not scared of them if needed)
I've seen 2 designs that are of interest:
folded TABAQ:

yljhao's design:

1. Has anyone heard these speakers? How do they sound?
2. Are there any other speaker designs using the Tang Band W3-881SJF that are small or, ideally, even smaller?
3. Would these drivers work in a tiny cabinet like the uFonken or Lance?
Any advice or input is much appreciated.

Mr IG,
The speaker you’re link leads to appears to be a 2 way design and doesn’t use the Tang Band speaker I referenced above.
Do you have anything helpful?

Dual back loaded horn is interesting - Mid and bass from separate throats?

But it construction for full range speakers and must good for yours Tang Band! Author also gave special Dwg design file in the description on this video YouTube!
Thank you both for your links.
I'm hoping to find small or very small designs that use Tang Band W3-881SJF in a single driver speaker that was designed using Thiel parameters to calculate the optimum port length and diameter. The hope is to find designs that have already be tried with this driver and found to sound good.
Mr Ig:
I see the videos on the build of the speaker and it looks really very impressive but I don't have that full range speaker or that tweeter.
(the tweeter may be this: Dayton Audio AMT Mini-8 Air Motion Transformer Tweeter 8 Ohm. )
Godzilla:
Those designs look interesting but they look quite large for my desktop and, although I can translate the languages in Google, I don't know how much calculation was involved in the design process. I think 2 of them use my driver. Interestingly, it does look like the Korkea-SC08
design splits the output into 2 lines.
To give you an idea of what I mean:
At home I use uFonkens by Planet10 with the Fostex FF85wk and a Voxel subwoofer by Paul Carmody with a Tang Band W5-1138SMF. I love the uFonken. Together: they are amazing!
At work I have a pair of Wolf's PC speakers with the Aurasound 3 inch driver. They were my first build and will likely be replaced soon - maybe by this build.
Does anyone know of any other designs?

This driver would do fine in the folded TABAQ. You could try with less stufing, maybe on third less.
Please note you can mount the driver in the middle of the front baffle.
You can build it as is and place it with the port firing downwards. Just put the cabintet on some small "feets" or "legs". I have tested this and it works fine.
Have fun!

I saw someone post a measurement on youtube showing a peak on the w3-881sjf....have anyone experienced it as well? The datasheet shows a very falt response....if it is so i'm very tempted to try that one...
I think it’s settled. I’ll build the folded TABAQ
Thank for the help.
I think you'll be happy with the TABAQ. It sounds amazingly good, especially considering its size and it uses a 3" driver. I have mine against a wall and they sound REALLY great. I use a Dayton PS95 currently, but I'm almost finished with my second pair, in which I'm going to try a pair of Tang Band W3-881SI drivers.
