bought some cheap ($60 pair) sony speakers not expecting much I hooked them up in my screen porch and the sound was very good! I am driving them with 150 wrms .008 thd chip amp x2 also my screen porch system has a 200 wrms 12" sub under the floor but even with the sub turned off these little speakers sound good. my question is has anyone done any mods on these? are they worth messing with? they are cheap enough but will they hold up to 120wrms like the specs say?
They have some great reviews tbh, I would mod them 😀
Change internal wiring to OFC wires, nothing too expensive.
Have a play about with wadding inside cabinets, I've found Sony speakers need a bit more than Sony use.
Whats the crossover? Does it have a 1.2uF capacitor before tweeter? Poly cap may improve tweeter performance and maybe blue tak or bitumen on rear of magnets on drivers.
It depends on how far you would want to go with them really.

while good at amp building I am a newbie at speaker building, u speak of ofc wire ? what are the benefits? the cabs have no wadding whatsoever what would adding wadding do? xover 1.2uf fuhiyyu 100v bipolar how would a poly cap help? I do have a1.2 200v poly also a few other values on either side of 1.2. I want to use these speakers as front and rear surround speakers my amp is a stk module based 6 channel 150 wrms (stk4048xi) sub is 12" Dual with 4 ohm impedance
I have a similar pair - SSMB100H $39/pair. They had a thin piece of damping material and a 1.5uF electrolytic cap. I replaced the cap with mylar of equal value, and added ~3/4" of foam to every wall except the baffle. They now match each other very well, imaging and sonics are improved. Cost: $3 for the caps and the foam was from some technology equipment. It took perhaps 45 minutes and was well worth doing. I have used these several times at Audio Club meetings as a 'cheap speaker' reference, and they have generated a lot of interest.

I'd try your 1.2uF poly cap too 🙂 you can always change it back, like with a few mods.
