Hi guys, i've got a problem with my amp lately. It will turn on and play music normally but after some time it will stop and the "protection" light goes on. If i turn it off and let it cool down, then turn it on again, it works ok for a while again.
Any idea what could it be?

Solders have cracked due to heating. Resoldering is needed.
Do not use it without fixing else components will fail.

Its often the case that protection circuits trigger wrongly due to capacitors drifting, failing. Check and/or replace C700,702,704. There's also the chance of overheating by having restricted airflow - recheck in an open area if so. Manual here: Sony TA-FB940R Manual - Stereo Integrated Amplifier - HiFi Engine
Hi Ian, thanks a lot, i checked the temperature of all the power supply capacitors, the relays, and the output transistors, with my infrared pyrometer and nothing gets too hot apparently, max temp i measured was 40 degrees (C) and that after prolonged period on high volume, on purpose, to test it. Airflow is not resitrcted at all, i am carefull with this. It's a lovely amp (in my opinion) and i don't want to part with it 🙂
Thanks for the help guys

Resolder output, driver, and bias control stages both channels.
Resolder all regulator stages.
Visually check all boards for duff solder joints.
Follow manual procedure for adjusting bias current precisely.
Enjoy.
