Sources for a long round cross section belt

Looking for a round belt ideally 2-2.5mm thick to drive a 310mm platter has proven to be more difficult than expected. Or maybe i am approaching this the wrong way.

The flat belts that fit my platter are about 1020mm long so i assume a suitable round belt should be of similar length. Haven't had much luck finding one so far.

1. Acoustic Signature seems to offer two belt sizes for their subplatter and circumference driven turntables, correspondingly 490mm and 900mm. 900mm is less than the circumference of their platters, does that mean their belts are very stretchy?

2. Project offers a lot of belt sizes and shapes for their turntables. They do not disclose the actual sizes but it seems the longest is 97mm (RPM10 perhaps). The thickness still remains unknown but from the pics it looks very substantial. Project also sell 3mm pulleys, some of which perhaps fit their own belts.

Project belt resellers in general seem very reluctant to supply Project belts to other turntables. Belt sizes appear to be a carefully guarded secret.

3. VPi?

4. Clearaudio?

5. Others?

I do industrial machine tool repair. I learned long ago that the large size O-rings are just cut to length O-ring cord that are SuperGlued together. They even make an inexpensive splicing kit. I get my supply's at McMaster Carr industrial supply.

Belts are available on fleabay.

I ordered some extras for VPI based tables, but haven’t needed to use them yet, from this seller who has good feedback.

No specifications on belt profile/thickness…you’d have to ask.

I get the impression he is making them himself from a reel of material. Custom lengths may be possible.

There are other sellers as well.

Of course he is.

Experience with flat belts has taught me there is a substantial audible difference between a generic and a specially manufactured belt such as the ones made by Origin Live. Material, uniformity, surface treatment...

I guess i would just have to buy a few round belts and try them out.

Like I said, get proper extruded rubber cord, it is about 50 cents or so per meter here.
Molding a piece of rubber means you have to spread compound in the mold, and heat it up, then remove the flash....injection molding is also possible for that item.

But 1 meter long / pi is about 160 mm radius, you need a diameter of 320 mm, and a larger plate size.
That is a fairly large mold, I wonder how many people will make it for you, because in a small run at least 4 of 10 will be scrap.
The best and reliable solution is a spliced O ring cord.

Had the same problem a while ago, and ended up with 2 set´s of belts for EAT Forte = 2 belts, same size.
Or you can choose EAT Forte S with 2 different belt sizes, depending on the distance to your motorpod.

Thank you! Completely forgot about EAT.

Here's Fremer taking a lesson a few years back. Tried focusing on him but my finger slipped.
