So I have a pair of Sony SS U501’s. The woofers need replacing, but the basket does not fit. I guess now that I think about it I should have bought spacers, but I went and cut the box, now the hole is too big! I know that I can use plywood and fix this, but is there a product out there to help dummies like me? They are 12” woofers.
not sure how to fix this, perhaps google something like this:

ok. If the hole is not too big, take your new woofer and place it face down on your speaker cabinet over the hole. Use a pencil and make an outline on the cabinet of the speaker. Get a piece of wood about 1/2 inch (12 mm) thick, 2-4 inches wide (5-10cm), by 14 inches (35cm) long. Attach this to the inside of the speaker cabinet using screws from the inside of the cabinet. Place this piece of wood across the middle of the hole. Using a ruler or tape measure find the widest part of the hole. Draw a small line where you think the middle is. Rotate the ruler or tape measure a bit and draw another line where you think the middle is. These 2 lines should intersect a bit. Rotate the ruler many more times till you get a number of lines intersecting near the middle. Using a compass you should be able to find a spot that is exactly in the middle. This is the spot for your circle jig and cut a hole using your router. Set up the circle jog to the pencil outline you drew earlier. The speaker will now fit through the hole for a flush mount.
Now get some plywood or whatever and make some washers similar to Adason's post using your router and circle jig. The inside diameter should be the inside diameter of the new woofer, about 11". The outside diameter should be around 14". Cut this washer in half using the thinnest saw you have. Place each half inside your speaker cabinet using screws and glue. You should now be able to mount your new woofer.
If your hole was too big for the woofer so that the woofer fell through the hole, just make the washers, cut them in half etc.
