Found these on the side of the road for free so I took them🙂
They appear to be home made cabinets with some old speakers inside and an unknown crossover with just one capacitor. The drivers look like alnico types and old.
The Tweeter says Quam Chicago37 3A07 270212
The 8" speaker only has numbers and they are 809424 1056 237
The 12" speaker says too only has numbers 127421 1056 237
They all work but you can barely hear the low end through the 12" speaker so maybe I can devise a better crossover network. But to do so I would need some info on these speakers. Or is there a way to just "wing it" ?
If not maybe I will just pull the 12" and 8" speakers and use them for guitar amp projects but still unsure of the wattage handling capabilities.
Any info would be great!
Thanks

Manufacturing date codes:
270212
'270' = Quam-Nichols [speaker drivers]
'2' = the last digit of the year, so 1942, 1952, etc., which combined with the pictures of the motors and this coding format being so old/obsolete, they could be from the '40s -early '50s.
'12' = the 12th week.
809424
'809' = Varian Associates [vacuum tubes, CRTs]
'4' = the last digit of the year, so 1944, 1954, etc.
'24' = the 24th week.
Apparently, these are from a HIFI/guitar amp/whatever system originally.
Don't know who 127xxx is.

Hi,
They look very DIY and very wrong. Guitar speakers
of the valve, low power variety is a good idea IMO.
They are AlNiCo.
HiFi, forget it, they are not worth the effort.
rgds, sreten.

Great info thanks for the fast replies.
Probably just going to use the drivers for guitar amp projects, and yes low power valve.
Not sure what to do with the cabinets, I believe they are solid oak. I will either give them away or load them with some modern speakers and crossovers.

Great link thanks!
So maybe the 1056 stamped on both the 12" and 8" drivers means they are made by Fisher?
