as for the lead, I got a car wax can, were I put the lead inside and on the stove,melting in around 10 minutes and giving a round shape.
Depending on the speaker, you would have to make a few tries in order to find the appropiate weight. So, I made: 1 , 1&1/2, 2 , 2&1/2 pound weights.

cut the steel the right size in order for it to rest at the border of the speaker basket and screw it down with security nuts in order for them not to go loose with vibration.

Very nice, thanks for the tip on not bending the steel. I am planning on building one of these for myself.

as you can see in the above pic, there is a nut, (in the center of the dust cap) screwed in the bolt just below the steel, and another one on top.
MAKE SURE by pressing the bolt downwards, and perpendiculary, there is NO friction inside the dust cap (if the coil is movig up and down with friction, will eventually burn)
the steel has to be about 3 or 4 milimmeters above the dust cap, wich you can control by screwing or unscrewing the nuts in the center bolt.
MAKE SURE the steel is completely HORIZONTAL
drill a hole through the center of the of the lead and pale it on top.
screw a security nut, tightly (the bolt will not come appart) make a small force if working with a wrenck, in order for the lead not to come loose and make rattling noise.
Try different weights to see wich one vibrates the most.
To try out the project, find a low bass frequency song, and play it with a low volume, in order for you to detect if coil is not touching and making thal noise(make sure of this or your speaker will burn)
