Stream from local NAS to WiiM mini?

Hi. I’m somewhat new to streaming. I set up Volumio on an RPI and used USB to my Schiit Modi and that worked well. My main source was a USB thumb drive with flac files I ripped from my CDs. Then my son gave me a subscription to Amazon Music, and Volumio doesn’t stream that. I tried using AirPlay from my phone to Volumio and that didn’t work well. So I bought a WiiM mini. It streams Amazon Music well. I’m using the toslink to the Modi
Now I still want to listen to my flac files, I’ve got a ton of them.
My question is (finally!): what’s the best way to stream the flac files to the WiiM mini? I could set up an RPI as a NAS with a 500Gb drive for the files - will the WiiM mini just see them? Or do I also need to put a media server on the NAS like Plex or something similar in order for the WiiM mini to stream the files?
Thanks, Rob

Maybe the best solution is not to stream at all. Playing back from local storage has many advantages but that WiiM device does not have a free USB slot does it? Then you will be forced to stream/play back from network. In this case the device dictates how things can be done. The design idea is to use subscription services by content providers and not your own content.

If you make a share on the NAS hard drive then you will probably need to note that share path in the WiiM (if it does not see it automatically). There is no absolute need to install server software but it can make things simpler if you are not so tech savvy. The WiiM supports DLNA so I don't think you will encounter many issues if you install that on the RPi NAS. If you use the WiiM Home app and browse My Music you'll see the DLNA device.

@jean-paul Thanks for mentioning DLNA. I had heard of it but didn’t know what it was. I read up on it and it sounds fine for streaming from a raspberry pi NAS to the WiiM mini. I’m setting that up now.

Ok, so I set up a NAS on my raspberry pi with OpenMediaVault, transferred a bunch of flac files to it, then installed the minidlna plug-in and my Wiim mini sees that under 'Home Music Server' and everything seems to work fine. Thanks!
