Strip a Proview PL576Ws 15.4" 1280x800 wide screen LCD monitor

I finally picked up a proview PL576Ws at local Staples for $229. It might not be the best LCD on the market, but I believe it is the best LCD for a DIY HD Projector.

The LCD module used in this monitor is Toshiba Matsushita Display LTD154EX0HG. I found MAG PS576W uses the same module, so I copied spec here:

Optional

you can remove the small cover that reveals wires from controller to LCD. But it is not necessary.

remove a couple of screws on the side, the back metal panel was move aside to reveal the backlight plugs.

now the two halves can flip open, and the backlight is ready to remove. there are 3 small screws on the side and one on the metal cover on top of the PCB board(it was removed in the pic)

flip the PCB board up and the backlight was easily removed

now a quick test on a 3M 9200 OHP. the stage is too small for the LCD (only 10" or so), and it is kinda dirty too. But it give you an idea how it look from up to bottom.

As you can see, this monitor is very easy to strip, and performs well on a medicore OHP. for $229 it is must-have if you want true HD quality.

Thanks for posting this, it answered alot of design questions for me while allowing me to keep mine as a tv until I get my optics.

Hello,
i allready have a proview PL-576Ws almost a year now and it performs realy well with a HQI-TS 400W D and an 18" beseller with 550mm fresnel.
I recently found this monitor:IISONIC TFT 15,4" IIM15J (16 ms)
and i wonder if it uses the same lcd module as proview.

yes, its the same lcd.

its the only one made that is 15.4inch widescreen that uses 256k colours.

The only thing that was confusing me was that IISONIC stated that the resolution is 1280 X 768 but they say that it supports 1280 X 800 with pc.

I thing that after the 1920 X 1200 15.4" tft this one is the next best for diy projection as it strips dead easily and it performs very well.The only thing that i noticed is that by removing the antiglare film it does not become more transparent and it has image reflecting problems even with an antireflect coated projection lens.

Hi everyone... I found this post from google...

I am in the middle of a projector build and my 15.4" x2Gen cracked on me today... A huge let down.

I am looking into this monitor and wondering what people think of it... What is its refresh rate?

Also, I noticed some anti-glare issues above... Have you guys been taking the anti-glare off with just water/paper towel, or is it a trickier monitor?
