I have decided to give these larger Tannoys a try. I would like to ask for advice for specific driver models, version to look for. Trying to Stay away from the vintage ones that fetch crazy prices.
I have auditioned CPA15’s and those sounded good. Do they use some of the better tannoy 15 drivers? What driver model to hunt down?
Will be using subwoofers.
I know ZM and possibly others members on this forum could provide some insight?
Thanks

I don’t know how much the Tannoy brand factors into this but the 15” coaxial by DIY Sound Group (Vortex-15) compares favorably with similar offerings by Tannoy.
i’d like to get 15 inch Tannoys because I have some smaller Tannoys that I like a lot, V8 and V12.
But I want to build something around their 15”

I’m using a pair of coaxial 10” as my mains so I understand the allure. Larger would definitely be better so best of luck.
So I see the 15" Tannoy options as follows
1.HPD
2.Red
3. 3836
4. 3804
5. Gold
Are all equally good?

Based on what? Actually owning and working with them?So I see the 15" Tannoy options as follows

Measured them and used them in your own designs?Yep. Owning them and listening to them.
That's going really far, but here's my point:
Sometimes I see their 15s" for sale. Like the PA and install versions that are still not crazy expensive -- 3836 or 3804 --from CPA 15 or i15.
They are newer than the HPD, Gold and Red and whatever. I don't want to automatically assume that the newer versions are better. But maybe they are. So that is why I ask.
I am not collecting. I am trying to get help choosing the better Tannoy 15" for a project -- pair of mains that will be aided by a pair of subs.
Sometimes older stuff is better but not always and usually not in speakers. Again, that's why I ask if this applies to Tannoys. Looking at their current product line does not help because some of their PRESTIGE models use the TULIP waveguide and some the PEPPER POT. I cannot see a relationship between the waveguide and class of driver.

No, it's not. You asked for experience. You're not interested in mine, so feel free to do whatever you want. Unsubscribed. That's going really far, but here's my point
