I have a pair of DC2000s that I like a lot. I've just found out that the DC3000s use the same drivers in a bigger cabinet for extended bass response, so I'm thinking about copying the dimensions of the DC3000 and putting my drivers in.
Anyone know what thickness MDF the DC3000s are? or of any pitfalls? The DC2000s are very nicely braced internally, I'm guessing the 3000s use a similar design.
thanks

Thanks, Andropov - looks like a juicy site! I'm sure if the answer isn't there I can find someone to help.
I've some D50s i will potentially rehouse -- can't figure out how to get the driver out thou... does anyone know if they glue these things in?

Re: Dc1000
FWIW the DC2000s (same drivers as DC1000 plus an extra bass driver) are a closed box, unusually for tannoy. The bass is very controlled and un-boomy but not as 'effortless' as bigger reflex Tannoys.
You could try putting your DC1000 drivers into a similar sealed box and adding a subwoofer.

hi, thanks for that, if anyone needs any infomation about past Tannoy models, look at the Archive in Tannoy on-
http://www.hnny.nl/indexhnny.html
is there anywhere that sells a crossover like the one in the DC2000, or can i adapt my DC1000 crossover for an extra bass driver?
thanks

Re: tannoy dc1000
I'd keep the existing crossover as is. Don't mess with the HF section, it includes a notch filter to get rid of a 3kHz (ish) resonance. I guess the LF section is no more than a 1.2mH inductor in series with the driver?
The DC2000 crossover for the LF units is simply an inductor in series with each driver, with a slightly larger value for the extra bass unit, so it's rolled off at a lower frequency than the DC. The value of the inductor you'd use depends on the driver. It's 2mH in the tannoy.
As the two LF drivers are effectively in parallel below a few hundred Hz, the DC2000 has a very low impedance at these frequencies and some amplifiers might struggle...just thought I ought to warn you! You might be better off using a separate amp to drive the new drivers.
good luck, let me know how it goes.

I have a pair of almost new DC2000's. I love the sound of one of them but I can't listen to both because one crossover is missing. I think someone took it to copy and lost it. Does any one have a schematic or one available? Any help would be appreciated. I don't know enough to take the one I have and do a duplicate especially coil values.

Re: Tannoy DC2000
I have a pair of them, they are my very first speakers bought with more or less my very first paycheck from my very first proper job some 18 years ago. 🙂
The crossover looks pretty simple, it'll be easy to copy. Argueably beneficial but maybe you could upgrade components or swap out components from the original crossover to properly match the components in the new crossover. I don't know if it's worth doing, I'm no expert 🙂
The caps have values printed on them as you know, maybe you could measure the inductors using something like this or similar? http://webtronics.stores.yahoo.net/digcapandint.html
I only have a capacitance meter so can't help by measuring the inductor values I'm afraid. I can certainly draw a schematic for you if necessary though. I don't know if there were any crossover changes during the time the DC2000s were manufactured though so I only assume yours are the same as mine.

DC2000-DC3000 crossover the same?
Hi bremen nacht-
Is the DC3000 use the same x-over as the DC2000? I see the part numbers are different.
DC2000- 1107 crossover
DC3000- 1108 crossover
Thanks- Kent

I could not find a crossover for the missing one in the DC2000 so I used the one I had to design two new ones ( so they match) but I used much better components. They really sound good. It's amazing what a difference good (and current) components make in crossovers.
Nice one!
I really like the DC2000s. I have HPD315 and HPD385s and of course the bass isn't as huge or the treble as sweet as these monsters, but they do sound great for their size and cost, and the imaging is lovely.

I probably would not have put so much energy into building the two crossovers except the DC2000's I had were in new condition. The dealer let someone "borrow" the one crossover right out of the box and since only one speaker worked, they both went back in the boxes.
I use them for a second system and am very pleased with the sound. Extremely easy to listen to.

Hi inrank!
Please tell me what kind of sound do they produce?
Write characteristics of this speaker Tannoy DC1000.
Z =?, Prms =?, SPL =? Frequency range of + /-3dB?
The driver is installed in the box, etc. ...
Thank you for your cooperation!
