Hi. I need to buy a new rubber mat for my SL6 and do not have the original. Please can you give me the inner / outer diameter with the 45 rpm adapter hole and the thickness of the mat.
I think the outer diameter is 285mm and inner diameter is 45mm and thickness is 3mm but would be grateful if you could confirm this. I have found a company thart will make what I want but I need to get the measurements correct.
Thanks

The mat on my SL-3 measures 286mm in diameter and the 45rpm adaptor hole is 40mm in diameter. Thickness is 3mm.
I think you have made a mistake with your inner diameter as a 45rpm adaptor has a standard size of 38mm.

The 40mm hole in my mat allows sufficient clearance for the 38mm adaptor so that it can pop up without hindrance. My mat is flat and does not fit into a recess.
Hi Galu
The comapny that will make the mat can only do a mat of a fixed thickness while the original mats had different thicknesses throughout the mat with a thinner section near the doughnut recess and ciuld therefre sit on top of the recess.
If the replacement mat is of a unifrom thickness then the section near the doughnut will sit higher above the recess if you know what I mean.
What do you think?

I don't think a mat of uniform thickness will detract from the operation of the turntable. May not look as neat a fit as the original mat, that's all.
I attach an image of an SL-3 and an Sl-6 for comparison purposes.

Hi
SL6 relies on optics for detection of record size and track programming. These are built into the tonearm assemby - I think. I have an SLDL1 as well but the optics for that are under the turntable for detection of recotd size with holes in the mat for the LED detection lights.

O.K. As long as the central adaptor does not function as the record detector, the extra thickness of the mat should not interfere with the working of the turntable.
The SL-3 in my collection is a lowly and relatively unsophisticated member of Technic's linear tracking family!

Hi again!
Re-reading your posts. I think I now understand correctly what you mean. On your photo, it appears there is a circular raised lip (not a recess) on the platter around the central opening for the 45rpm adaptor.
In that case, the diameter of the hole in the middle of the mat would have to be large enough to clear that lip.

Hi, thanks for confirming my idea.
I inherited the SLD1 as not working and fixed it. I also got a SLL1 for £20 and fixed that and gave it to my sister. I bought the SL6 as a project to keep me sane in the lockdown. It works fine but is a bit battered.
Plainning on using the Novus plastic polish system to get the cabinet up to spec with some 2000 grit sandpaper. The compay producing the mat is a local one I found on ebay and they will make what I want for £15.
Both the SLDL1 and the SL6 come with the P23 cartridge which people say are really good but need to spend a bit on a stylus. For now I am using an Audio Technica AE85.
That is my Technics Linear Tracking turntable story so far.
