Well I started to tear this table apart and I found the spindle looking like this. Questions are; how do I clean the shaft of rust, and is there a ball bearing like the Rega, or does this pointy shaft ride on a teflon pad on the bottom on the well?
Thanks, Doug

Try wiping with paper towels and alcohol first and see what that does. (Sometimes it comes right off.) The pointy end of the shaft takes the place of a ball. The thrust pad in most Thorens tables of that era was made of nylatron or a related polymer.
turtle polish cream for cars, with care...
Good afternoon gentlemen and dear kevinkr
I have the same axle and pulley in a TD125.

Thank you Esteban and Kevin. I used the cream first followed by a alcohol wipe down. Looks great!

You may want to ask Whomever you bought that thing from: What happened to the OEM Thorens 150Mk2 Spindle !??.
Cuz that most certainly Isn't one.
REAL one has a captive spherical/ball bearing as the pivot.. not some goofy point.

A friend gave this to me for nothing, and it was in his brothers closet for who knows how long? So, I won't get to crazy with it. I just guessed that it came with two different bearing systems over the production run.

My td145 had the pointed spindle, no ball. Nice table, looke up "chadwick mods"...adding a ply or mdf bottom plate and some dampening under the top plate really work wonders.
Possibly (indubitably 🙂 someone substituted the Cheapo Issue 145 Model's inner platter /shaft at some point. As Only the 145 model was so blessed as to be deprived of it's spindle bearing
OK, in all seriousness here's the lowdown on the Thorens spindles, looks like late in the run of the MkI's they switched to the pointed shaft:

TD Platter Bearings
You should read this pdf file I add Thorens Overhaul Guide (thorens_infos_english.pdf ) it has a part about bearing repair and the guy who wrote sell a bearing repair kit for thorens 10mm bearing. I have used this kit to repair my TD150 bearing.
