Not sure about the shipment rules about such stuff though.

For that current (½ to 1 amp) type 6012 has octal socket. There are some on American eBay right now.

Edit: If higher voltage is needed, please state rating.

Why not a humble 2050, available all over the place, bog-std Xe thyratron (cheap, too).

I was going to mention the 2050 but the cathode current is too humble. Averaging .1 - .2 Amps verses .5A for the 6012. If course if a 4 pin socket is OK, then there are several other choices available.

I missed the decimal point on the 2050 data sheet. There are several Soviet offerings for Xe-filled devices on E-pay that meet the av current spec and are cheaper than the 6021, more choices if you don't mind a plate cap.

I always thought ~gas filled thyratrons~ were utilized for the ''light show'', mostly. Dunno - I'm neither old enough to seek out exotic AC-->DC rectification methods, nor young enough to want light shows (and precious little else).

Places you would think of using a thyristor, you can use a thyratron. They still have a place for switching HV.

For a low current device, the 2D21 would be a likely prospect. Maybe you could use a bunch of them to build a Trautonium....

Thyratron relaxation oscillators are apparently pretty stable thermally - you could augment them with pentode current sources (submini?). The thyratrons can also be strung together to make ring counters and dividers.

thanks a lot for suggestions, i hoped for something <4A heater and mesh anodes - or visible glow.
