do you know Xe gas thyratrons, average current 0,5-1A octal socket (or similar..) best if, are still sold on ebay.
For that current (½ to 1 amp) type 6012 has octal socket. There are some on American eBay right now.

Edit: If higher voltage is needed, please state rating.

I always thought ~gas filled thyratrons~ were utilized for the ''light show'', mostly. Dunno - I'm neither old enough to seek out exotic AC-->DC rectification methods, nor young enough to want light shows (and precious little else).

For a low current device, the 2D21 would be a likely prospect. Maybe you could use a bunch of them to build a Trautonium....

Thyratron relaxation oscillators are apparently pretty stable thermally - you could augment them with pentode current sources (submini?). The thyratrons can also be strung together to make ring counters and dividers.
