Hello,
I’m curious the concensus on loading mechanisms on CD players. Front load is much more common but top load just seems a better mechanism. More accurate and less to go wrong. What do you think?
Thanks

I've often asked myself this question and I think the answer lies in the fact that the format of a reader with a horizontal mechanism is more visually acceptable than a reader with a vertical format (1U/2U vs 4U/5U).
I am also thinking of mechanical constraints (angular momentum, gyroscopic effect, centrifugal force, gravity etc etc etc )

Top loaders are simpler, think about the Discman. But in case of a front loader, once the disc is decoupled from the drawer mechanism (sitting on the spindle), it is not worse or better than a top loader, IMHO. The turntable part is decoupled by rubber shock absorbers in either case.
