Hello Folks, I have used several TPA3116D2 boards from Aliexpress. Recently I ordered this stereo board XH-M543 which has a preamp (TL084) built in and i thought it will give more input gain. However, I found everything okay with it, until i discovered that this circuit goes to protection mode and restarts ( thats what i think), when the I turn up the volume. Basically the circuit goes into mute and starts again in a second or less time. I tried using 18-24 volt in 4,6,8 ohms speaker and in every possible way its having the same issue. As the IC has some protection functionality, i know it can detect clip, DC, or overload condition, but i checked other boards of the same IC in same condition, giving same level of input and they didnt have this issue. As i bought a good number of this board, i really need a fix for this problem, as i firmly believe that the problem is not in the IC rather in the implementation of the Circuit. May be the protection mode is turning on a bit faster than it should be. If there is any small hack i can make in the board, by either bypassing the protection or changing the value of any parts which will keep it functioning for higher level of input signal then I would like to do it.
Any expert opinion is highly appreciated.
thanks in advance and if you need more info feel free to ask me.

Maybe the gain is set higher, so with same input level the 3118 is outputting more "ompf" triggering the OCP. Is your supply capable of supplying enough current? You may check your supply rail with a scope to see what happens.

The board has individual pot for each channel, and i tried decreasing the level as low as possible. But at a certain point its still shutting down. and yes i also tried with more powerful smps where other 3116 boards are working fine at that level with same power supply, this model is not. 🙁
Apart from if there is a defect in the TPA3116 chip, you are right - it is most likely one of the protection functionalities that activates. "Turn up the volume" is very subjective. Some, typically young members, really mean play LOUD. In such case, my two first suspicions would be the thermal limiter or the output current protection. For the thermal issue, check that you have a good thermal contact to the heatsink and try with a fan.
For the output current protection, I see the 33uH output filter chokes as a problem. They will handle a current around 3A (peak) before saturating. When they saturate, the current peaks become much higher and the current protection may be invoked.

the choke is using in most d-amp kit with ferrite is minimal requirement to run class D but then they cant handle large output current and will be really hot when running other class D that more than 30vdc single supply, those choke is not suitable enough to run properly, ferrite will produce alot of heat as they cant handle high switching freq, the best core for class D is -2 material iron powder, T106-2 can give arround 400w peak, for tpa3116d t50-2 is enough, the power is arround 50w x2 for stereo. the problem when play high volume shutdown which means that chip trigger over current already so it will be shutdown. many kits arround sometimes has an error, some of them just working only few mins then dead, if ur lucky enough you may get working one, its depend on your luck lol, btw that kit is really chip arround 3-4$, not bad.
