Hey I was wondering if anybody has a set of these and can tell me how they actually sound. I've read all sorts of things about TR-Theater being a scam but the majority of people saying that either haven’t purchased these speakers or haven’t even hooked them up. I would like to know from anyone here who actually owns a pair of these things, how they actually sound. Thanks for your time.
I haven't heard them either, but if you look at the weight quoted for the speakers, there can be no doubt in my mind that they are REALLY cheaply made.
There are several supposed manufacturers of speakers that look exactly the same at TR's. I would assume they all come form the same place, just with different badges.

I bought 2 sets of these a few months ago on ebay just to see if they were any good or not. i bought the tr 2801 and the tr2900 for a total of $450 shipped for all 7 speakers. after taking them apart they are pretty cheaply made, 7/16" mdf, 1st order xovers all around. the tr2900 have self powered subs which claim something like 250 watts. I dont think it is anywhere near this. however they do get fairly deep for a 10sub in a tower speaker. sound quality is decent. nothing to rave about. much better than any klh speakers you will buy from circuit city, probably better than alot of the cheaper name brands. One thing that is impressive is you can put alot of power into them with out any distortion, I am running the entire set off my yamaha htr 5760, I can crank it all the way up, which is supposedly around 100watts with little distortion and they do get loud. Sensitivity i think is probably somwhere around 86-88 range dont think is is 93 like they claim. So are these speakers audiophile speakers like they claim, hell no! will you find pre built speakers in cabinets that look this nice for this cheap that sounds decent? I guess that depends how much you pay for them. If you are going to get them on ebay though you can talk the seller down and then apply some discount to your paypal when you send it, thats what i did.
Thanks alot, that was a big help. I mean I have heard that these are better than crap you will find at CircuitCity (Saturn, Mediamarkt here in Germany), and for 180 Euro I don't think its that bad of a deal. Thanks again.
I was just reading a post last night having to do with those speakers. search around. someone posted some response graphs... they were horrid. looked like the grand canyon. these are the same speakers being sold out fo the back of white vans some places from people who claim they are from a profesional install company and were delivered too many pairs of speakers. they sell em then for a few hundred bucks or whatever the poor sap will deal out. They have no more than $100 into them. I'd sugest you steer clear, this scam has been going on for years. check these sites out.

hello all, I bought a set of the TR 2930 from a guy in vegas in the CES show last year. Only paid 300.00. They worked great fro abou a month, until the built in amp started humming. I continued to use them and the hum kept getting worse. Until they finally gave up. I took them to a local shop to get them fixed but they couldnt get them workign. after replacign all the IC's and the blown resistor. (poor soldering work). Long story short dont buy these speakers not worth the time or the money. They are built in China and shipped to a warehouse in CA. I have all teh info on how to get ahold of these guys but they dont warrenty anything they sell. because they never sell them legitimatly.

I didn't get bought for even half a second by these guys. How could you? It's soooo obviously a scam and hell, why not RESEARCH before purchasing??? You could've got Bose speakers, even if you hate them because you've been told to, but at least THEY warranty their products.
Buying speakers from a truck, DUH!?!?!?! It's either jacked (hot...stolen, if you will) or a scam. Then again, they did ask the WRONG person--I run a consutling company that is well known by those interested in audio in my home town area. I worked with the police, BBB and other agencies to rid them of my area.
I did it because of what my company stands for, hi-fidelity for the masses. If they sold pots and pans, I could've cared less.

Research is important. Sometimes these "white van" speakers might work out well IF you know what you are getting.
I wouldn't buy anything out of someone's van or truck, but I do frequent pawn shops. I check something out, write down model numbers, and then go check it out on the Internet.
I came across some MTS dual 8" woofer/ metal tweeters- towers. Minor scratches, grills in tact, matching stands, heavy cabinets. They wanted $120. I went and checked them out on the net. Some people said they were white van, some said they were fine.
I went back w/ a screwdriver and tape measure and asked if I could look inside the cabinets. The woman was nice and said yes. The drivers were decent and relatively heavy. 2nd order x-overs. Walls were lined. Flared rear port. Box was made with 3/4" and around 1/2" mdf. Fired them up at the store and everything worked. I talked them down to $100 and then pointed out the 20% off sign they had up for that isle. In the end, I paid $80 for some decent speakers. Which I beleive the boxes and stands were worth that alone.
They have really good bass response. I might eventually change the tweeters. But they work nicely with my Dayton 2-way bookshelves.
So sometimes, you can catch a good deal IF you do some research and know what you're getting into.
