Tube Amps for Infinity speakers ?

I’m seeking info on what type of tube amp/amps that can be used on more demanding loads, the curse of being an Infinity Speaker guy….power..power…power. It always comes down to the more the better.

I’ve recently acquired a pair of Delta-Gammas, the bottom end I can deal with, dual 12” woofers, one being servo controlled.

The top end, one L-emim, emim, emit, one front and one rear firing + a semit.

The manual says the top end requires 70 to 200 watts. I know nothing about tube amps, I’ve read some here and there but it’s beyond me. I know there sure is many beautiful looking tube amps 🙂. I’d love to try the Latino ST-70’s but they end on the scale where my recommended power starts.

So for you tube gurus, given the situation what would you use that could handle this power requirement at a reasonable cost ? Is it possible to do with a 2-5k budget.

Thank you for any help.

I believe the manual say minimum 70 watts just to ensure you have enough headroom and dynamic, at relative high volume.
The difference between 20 watts and 200 watts is only 10dB in loudness.
Will you miss the last 10dB loudness if you don't have? I doubt it.

It's more than sheer power. Damping factor is also a consideration and tube amps do not exhibit the gargantuan damping factors found in top notch SS power amps.

A Harman-Kardon Citation II overhauled ala Jim McShane will give you 60+ WPC continuous and pulses in excess of 130 WPC. For a tube amp, the "Deuce" exhibits a high damping factor and the only speaker I rule out as its mate is the big Thiel, whose impedance dips down to 1 Ω (perhaps even lower). A "Deuce" mated to AR9s or AR3s is absolutely delightful.

I run my Infinity RSIIb speakers full-range with SET monoblocks. Unfortunately I had to build them from scratch myself, if you are so inclined they run at 2.3kV, took about a year to build, and look like this...

Magz, that is impressive man ! I’ll bet that sounds awesome. I have the opportunity to buy my llb’s back but I’m out of room. I did purchase a bunch of McIntosh stuff today for the Gammas but I’d sure like to try some tube stuff up top.

Damn that’s Glorious !

Both me and my brothers experience with Infinity speakers is that they sound great.
We had different Infinity models.

But the woofers had Foam surround at the outside of the cone.
All of that foam degraded, and the woofers had to be replaced.

No need to replace the woofers, refoaming is a breeze. Kits are readily available for a few bucks and once you've done one it gets very easy. I must have refoamed 3 or 4 dozen speakers over the years.
