TV audio output to speakers -- what is the best way to do it? Optical? Headphone out?

Having a hard time with the DAC.
I guess I need an IS2 board? Then optical input plug?
I can handle putting the LM3886 amp together, might even get it in the case I have with the MD power supply.
The DAC I'm having a hard time figuring out what I need to get it together.

And it seems getting a DAC into a case with an amp is going to be hard.

ALSO, can I control the volume from my TV if using optical output?
Does optical output have much better sound quality than headphone output?

Does optical output have much better sound quality than headphone output?
No, the volume is not usually adjustable on the optical output.
Yes, the digital optical output should sound better than the analog/headphone output.
I suppose it may depend on the brand and model, but it's been my experience with several from Sony, Panasonic and Samsung.
On a recent Samsung even the digital optical output had problems with drop-outs / glitches.
I had to get an HDMI audio extractor to put ahead of the TV to get a reliable digital output.

I have no HDMI input.
TV usually has Youtube, Netflix, Hulu etc playing.
Even music is from youtube.

Sounds like I might as well stick to headphone output, especially since I can control the volume with the TV remote.
Family turns off my amp/speakers and uses TV speakers if they have to mess with different remotes or amp controls.
Will optical out be much better than headphone output?

TV is --
LG OLED65CXPUA Alexa Built-in CX 65-inch 4K Smart OLED TV (2020 Model)

Use headphone out into your amp. Everything will works nice and clean, and tv remote will control amp volume. Check both levels (tv headphone out and amp) to get minimal hiss.

BUT, sound quality wil be not so good. Clearly inferior to optical/hdmi o cd-quality. Maybe good enough for movies, not for music.

The best is a dedicated dac with remote and variable output (is what I have). If you dont like to have 2 remotes, buy a cheap one programmable for everything.

Agreed, the headphone output is simpler. As for the quality, check the audio settings in the TV and adjust for the best sound. They usually have several things like tone controls, compression or dynamic range limiters, simulated surround sound, etc, that can affect the sound a lot. Some experimentation required.
On the other hand, the optical output has no processing since it's intended to feed an AV receiver / sound system.
