Use for old speaker cabinets ?

My moms threatened to toss them out, nice cabs but need new mids and tweaters , maybe I could hide them somewhere until can get new drivers cheap ..
Maybe as a stands or something.. not sure if there worth fixing at all but bass drivers work .. surrounds were shot on everything else .

Pics don’t know speaker model or
Brand

Main question is: do you have another set of cabinets for music listening or not?

If not, buying 2 cheap midrange and 2 tweeters at, sat, Parts Express or USSpeaker will be cheaper/faster than 2 new full cabinets.

Anything you fit there will be better than current complement, any day of the week.

Post exact diameter for mids and tweeters.

Do the woofers work properly?
spend your money on completely new speakers.
Good suggestion, but I seem to "read" NO money available, so ....

If woofer works, cabinet and crossover are present, even if just a couple cheesy capacitors, fitting a couple cheap new drivers there is chapest/fastest path to a "usable" cabinet.

Woofers work fine other two drivers need replacement, they work but not very good.
How good could they sound with new drivers??more likely to afford new drivers before new speakers, but who knows if it’s worth fixing …
Garage could use some speakers I been listening to a tiny radio lmao … tho my parents hate these ugly speakers.. there better then Philip Magnavox speakers im using as fronts , in bedroom but there probably better for music .

Find old drivers at a car knacker's yard
Check the cones are OK.
Pick up a big sub in box if one is lying around.

Buy several so you can save a trip if one is dead.
And the extras can be used in garage, whatever.
Old TV speakers will work too.

Weren’t tossed out yet, very well built sturdier then anything else I’ve got .

....

That is one good reason to keep them. In addition, it appears (can't tell for certain from the pics) that the woofer drivers have the type of surrounds that do not rot, unlike foam surrounds that are most common on older drivers. I definitely see value there. But I am a speaker lover.

Your parents, understandably, may not see any value in them though. But if they understand that you have love for them, hopefully they will let them hang around. One thing I would do ASAP is toss (or remove and store in a box unseen) the mid and tweeter drivers, as that patch job is driving up the ugly factor in a major way. Then clean up the cabinets as best you can. Doing those things might up the PAF (Parent Acceptance Factor).

Another possible use for these is to use the woofers/cabinets for low-end fill with a pair of bookshelf speakers. Used bookshelf speakers can be found cheap.

You would need to seal up the empty holes left by the tweeter and mids. Something like 1/2" plywood cut to cover both holes, painted black and caulk sealed where it mates with the cabinet, and fastened with screws. This would require basic tools and wood working ability.

The crossover will be the most significant factor in determining overall sound quality. That applies whether you put new mids/tweeters in the old cabinets or go with the bookshelf. And matching crossover to drivers is a very complex undertaking. But....this situation does not seem to be a case of engineering an audiophile solution....rather putting something together on the fly at minimal expense.

One good thing about using bookshelf speakers as mid/hi is that they will have their own crossover, at least on the tweeter.

Having a coil in series with the woofer would assist in matching its frequency response to the bookshelf speakers. Something could be improvised...

What does the existing crossover in those cabinets look like? Can you post pics?
