HI Folks
Does it make sense to buy a used sub woofer. For eg: i am seeing a 9 year old SVS PB1000 available in my area for discount of about 40% on current retail price.
My concern is that isnt it a bit too old for Subwoofer, especially considering the capacitors in the boards would be nearing end of life.
Thanks

If you can try the sub with the permission to return it after a trial period, then it could work. Subwoofers often tend to bet beat up with loud playing, so buying a used one could be problematic.
9rs old is nowhere near end of life for electrolytic caps.. that's more like 25yrs. But that said buying used powered subs is always a bit of a gamble, you don't know if it's had any issues and if it does develop a problem would there be any service information available for it.My concern is that isnt it a bit too old for Subwoofer, especially considering the capacitors in the boards would be nearing end of life.
Oh wow, i wouldnt mind taking the risk if the schematics of the amp were available. I could then repair if it got spoilt. But i understand that SVS use proprietary stuff so schematics are not available. So guess not worth the risk.
