Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and in desperate need of help.
The facts:
I bought a NAD C 515BEE cd player in Jan 2008. It's been hardly ever used and never caused any problems. The cd player was put into storage beginning of 2010 for 3 months, which also means is now conveniently out of guarantee. The storage was good - no dump, shaking, dropping etc, well packed and together with amlplifier, tape deck and other electrical items. When the stuff came out a few weeks ago everything worked great apart from the NAD cd player.
To begin with when playing any CDs (official CDs not burnt ones) I got NO-DISC message. After giving up for a couple of days I then tried again. This time to my surprise I got this: 00 --:-- then the first song kicked in and played for few secs then stopped and back to 00 --:--
Since then I now always get this 00 --:-- and then after pressing the PLAY button few times it goes into DISC ERROR mode.
If anybody could shed some light over this I would be VERY grateful.
I'm also not sure will be worth getting it repaired depending on what the prob is. Bear in mind I'm not very technically minded but am very annoyed and fully prepared to open the damn box and put my hands in it if necessary!!

First step has to be to clean the lens manually... not with a cleaning disc.
Use a good quality cotton bud dampened with warm water... don't use ISO.
Camera lens fluid is probably OK... never tried it though, I still use some old Sony stuff left over from training courses.

You could also check for any grease that may be blocking the sled movement ....condensation is very unlikely, but possible especially if moisture got in to connectors.... but clean the lens first and check for proper mechanical movements...
Another very likely cause of the problem could be that the caddy is not engaging the end-of-travel switch, so spindle motor never starts to spin…
So, open the player, check the switch, see if the spindle motor starts to spin, se if lens tries to “find” the disk…. (and then clean all contact / connectors, clean the lens and check / replace the grease anyway!)

I tested the player with the box still open and plugged in to the mains: the caddy mechanism seems to work fine but what I have noticed is that when I put the cd in the spindle motor def starts spinning very fast for few secs, but with the message on the display panel still reading 00 --:--. Then there's a small click sound and the CD slowly comes to a stop. If I press play it starts spinning again and then stops and so on.
Any other suggestions greatly appreciated!

Dredging up this old thread to see if a solution was found. I have a 321Bee that does essentially the same thing, but the CD will spin. It will spin, try to read, click-click-click, then give me a no disc on the display. If I open and close the tray about 30 times it might, might read it. Many times it will spin, give me the number of tracks and total time, but not be able to read the first track.
I've opened it up, cleaned the lens 5-6 times, cleaned off the grease-regreased (sled seems to move fine), etc......
Any suggestions as I figure it would be cost prohibitive to have it fixed?

I have posted before how to check the eye-pattern; there should be a test point on the PCB where the eye-pattern can be tested. If it is < 1.4V pp then the laser output should be increased until it reaches 1.4V pp level. Some CD players require 1.7V pp, some 1.2V pp depending on CD mechanism / servo combination used.
And.... if you are going to reply to this post saying how it is not advisable to increase the laser output level... pls don't, spare me that bu&^%$t.

ours was one of the 'faulty' ones and we sent it back to the technical centre. This was their report:
The tray switch flushing was the 'known' fault - this was performed while the unit was in.

One thing i have found on a couple of my nads🙂 is the darn ribbon cables can become damaged. This is pretty strange, but when the tray opens, the optics drop down to allow the tray to slide by. Somehow, the motor on some which is directly under the optics drops far enough to actually hit the bottom of the chassis. Problem is, they routed the ribbon cable directly under that, so you have a fragile flat ribbon cable getting beaten up sandwiched between the motor and the chassis. My ribbon cable had a hole in it you could stick a pencil lead in as the bottom end of the motor probably has a protruding portion of a spindle or something.
