Very inexpensive 15" open baffle woofer

Run across some interesting woofers for open baffle use they are also very inexpensive. https://5core.com/products/pro-audi...b-woofer-loud-speaker-driver-full-range-8-ohm I actually run across these by accident. The QTS 1.29 the FS 44 HZ very close to the Eminence alpha 15" but these speakers have a 60 oz magnet vs the 25 oz magnet on the alpha's. These 5 core 15's are also available on eBay for $54.49 each free shipping $47.41 each free shipping if you buy four. Has anyone in the forum used these drivers for open baffle? Someone could build a pair using two of these per side for under $200.00 that is a steel. Hopefully I will have these mounted in a baffle and give them a listen soon. I have never heard open baffle speakers before hopefully these sound great.

The TS parameters are a useful start to figuring out whether a woofer will work for OB or not. The magnet weight has nothing to do with it. Also, you left out the most important parameter, Xmax.

TBH, if you are looking for a step up from the Eminence Alpha 15A I suggest you look at SB Audience Bianco 15OB350:
http://www.sbaudience.com/index.php/products/various-drivers/bianco-15ob350/
It's better than the Alpha15A in almost every way. Costs a little more but the Alpha15A used to cost about $80 and now costs more like $120, so the difference is not all that much. It is sold by Madisound in the USA:

If you are looking for a very cheap OB woofer, then I would give a nod to the GRS models already mentioned over some no-name driver that is poorly characterized because that might end up being a waste of money.

Do you really need the Bl value? Users can get what they need from Sensitivity (dB/W @1m), fs, Qts and Xmax - and Vas if it's not for an OB. There is redundancy in the list of T-S parameters, and Bl isn't something a user would normally require a number for. Maybe for comparison purposes?

Montecay's review on the product page:

"I'm measuring Qts above 2.0 on both drivers with an FS of almost exactly 35 Hz on each driver..In open air the 2nd harmonic is > -20 dB down at 20 Hz given a 4 volt input. At the same point 3rd is > -30 dB down. At 30 Hz both are -40 dB. Beyond this both drop to -50 dB down to about 300 Hz where they come back up to around -40 dB. "

My notes:

Note: even in a large baffle - they need a LOT of surface area for decent pressure (unless you have them exceedingly close to your listening position). The proper solution is at LEAST 4 drivers per side, and if you need a lot of spl: 8 per side.

Warning/Tip: the VC leads can "slap" against the cone without some treatment - I used some felt "blocks" glued to the diaphragm's rear surface where they would ordinarily "slap" (..due to excessive dynamic peaks).

Note: don't expect much dynamic "attack" (fast onset), but clarity is *better than expected as long as excursion is kept fairly low (with many multiple woofers).

*though still not great.
