Hello everyone,

Here is a TMWW design I am thinking of building with a Visaton G25FFL Tweeter, G50FFL dome midrange and two GF200 woofers.

What do you think of this design?

Will there be any comb filter issues with the two woofers?

Anyone have any comments about how accurate BoxSim is?

Thank you,

David.

The Casablanca plans on the Visaton website use the same drivers but only one gf200. Bit of a weird design but could be adapted of you keep the stepped baffle.

You could try modelling that (the boxsim file may be available if you google), add the second GF200 and alter the mid/tweeter L pads to level out.

Also have a search through here to see if there are any existing designs you like Boxsim Projektdatenbank

It models better in boxsim. I've wondered why I've seen few projects using the 25mm dome, but in ALL my experiments in Boxsim, either KE or G20SC just seem to mesh well. The 25FFL doesn't, or at least not as easily, for me. The G20SC models almost identically to the KE25 ceramic dome. Which is handy, for a minimal tweak in order to upgrade.

Referring to the 2 configurations, 2 bass or 0.5 BSC woofer...

In either case, I believe you have used the Boxsim .frd file which uses both VC in parallel to give 4 Ohm nominal Z.

The issue may be with this, as both plots show impedance dropping to less than 4 Ohms between 3 and 4kHz. That's a pretty nasty impedance IMHO.

Check out the Visaton design Casablanca III Impedance plot. It dips to 6 Ohm in two places, although the scaling is coarser than yours and it's less legible too!

Either way, using two GF200 wired as 4Ohm, in parallel, and the dip to 3 and a bit Ohms seems to jive with what I would expect, given the drivers and comparison to Casablanca III Z plot.

Here's an idea: (actually what I wanted to do with GF200)

Use only one VC for 8 Ohm impedance. Leave the other open, or shorted via resistance. The Qts jumps up to more like 0.6, but a single driver can produce quite a respectable response in a simple closed box, better than many in the same size class (gF200 is unusual)

Ita not easy to model that scenario- I dont think Boxsim will do it - though IIRC there are models for each VC configuration, series, parallel, or single VC
