Want to make DIY headphones

Hi everyone,

this is my first time asking something here, so if I missed the place for asking please tell me the better subforum to ask.

I have came to idea that I would like to create my own headphones.
The problem is that I don't know where to start. I don't know any EU shops that sell all the parts I need. And I tend to do headphones shell custom one. I don't tend to buy all at once, so the final budget could be something like 700€-800€.

I would be glad if someone here could recommend the best places to buy each part (again please EU shops only) and point me into a right direction.

Thanks a lot

I have mentioned my max budget. I don't know the actual price that will be end the end. This is the first time I am trying to do something like that so there are a lot of questions and price is in that list of questions.

For example, I would like to use mahagony for custom shell and mahagony is pricy by itself.

Good luck with your build.

Weight is something to consider. What initially is tolerable will become feeling like two paving bricks strapped to one’s head.

I recommend re-purposing hearing protectors as shown in Icsaxzar’s thread. There are a multitude of types to choose from. Any shop selling industrial tools or sporting goods should have them. And you can audition them for comfort.

The cable should be as light and flexible as possible. Hopefully someone will post a recommendation.

I have found few stuff that I am looking into it, but I don't know what to expect from them. So any help and advice would be appreciated.

This is what I have found by now:

Shell 1

Shell 2

Driver 1

Driver 2

Driver 3

Driver 4

Driver 5

What I am trying to achieve is to have headphones for casual listening with strong/clear bass, quality mids, wide soundstage. This willl probably require some amp/dac which I am also willing to go DIY.

Not sure why the link came out as 'Blocked' ...

Some other sites decline to provide a Header for a detail page. One web-server suite seems to like to say "blocked". As you say, it works for a human, just not for this forum's auto-title function.

If you notice quickly (within edit window), and care, you can Edit your post and replace Blocked with DigiKey Doo Hickey #47.

I would like to have some amp with tubes for headphones. As far as I have learned by far, 32 ohm are not for amp. Plus I would really like to have 40000 Hz as max for highs instead of 20000 Hz. That is the reason why I have linked those drivers before. That peerless is 20kHz. Money for those drivers is not a problem. Of there is not any other choice I would buy it from USA and pay double taxation and customs.
