Hi all,
I am trying to source driver units and perhaps crossovers for a DIY repair of Wharfedale Jade 1 speakers.
The sorry tale had me playing an Audiolab 8300 cd player directly to twin power amps inadvertantly set near max volume. They have been over driven and it is a question of what isn't broken. No sound is never a good sign as is nothing like the proper sound.
How you may help is in a where to buy context. Here are the driver details of this three-way
Tweeter is a Cambridge Audio D-951
Mid range a Cambridge Audio D-916
Woofer Cambridge Audio D-910
I have just obtained a multimeter to continuity test to prove the damage if you will.
I have no idea on prices or where to buy here in UK. Have written an email to Wharfedale, nothing back yet.
I would like to have a go at even upgrading these with a new build. Advice welcomed. Thanks

Nice looking box.
from Stereophile:
The Jade 3 is a three-way bookshelf speaker with a 1" (25mm) aluminum-dome tweeter, a 3" (76mm) aluminum-pulp composite-cone midrange unit, and a 6.5" (150mm) Acufibre-cone woofer. The drivers are mounted in a sleek, sealed cabinet with a horseshow cross section when viewed from above.
….
The cones of the Jade 3's bass and midrange drive-units are made of Acufibre, a proprietary material that combines glass and carbon fibers in a self-damping woven matrix. A thin layer of aluminum is added to the front of the midrange cone to improve its radiation pattern. The dome tweeter has an elastomer mount to isolate it from cabinet vibrations.
The drivers look very proprietary, i would be hoping i can get proper replacement drivers from Wharfedale or used.

Managed to test both speakers today. As far as I can tell both woofers have blown. Mid range and tweeters both still have continuity.
Here are a few stats for Jade 1 from the wharfedale manual:
3 way aperiodic
Bass driver 125mm Acufibre
Cone mid range 75mm Alu-pulp
Tweeter 25mm Aluminium
6 ohm impedance
Frequency response 65hz -24khz
SPL 2.83v @1m 85db
Rec amp power 30-120w
Crossover frequencies 570hz 2.5khz
Attached pics of drivers and label
With this information can anyone recommend a bass driver woofer of suitable quality as a DIY replacement?
Thanks in advance
