I am making a drawing to submit to DIY Audio Store to convert to CAD and having a slight hiccup with my speaker binding posts.
The description for the binding posts says "holes drilled 0.75" on center"
Does this mean that the distance from the center of both holes should be 0.75" apart? Or 0.75" in either direction from a midpoint spot?

The standard mounting distance for a pair of binding posts is 3/4" which means
the center to center distance (where the holes are drilled). This placement fits the
standard dual banana plug that also has 3/4" center to center plugs.

The dual sockets that mount as an assembly are better than two separate sockets,
because they can't rotate. There are also even triple banana sockets and plugs.

It is used all over, for example the studs in the wall of my house are 16" apart, on center. That means centers of each board are 16" apart, as opposed to the space between the boards.
I guess it's an American term.
Google finds 'on center' but not 'on centre'.
UK would state as '0.75" centres' (usually abbreviated crs or cts): if you were born after 1960 then '19.05 crs'.

Dual bananas are made so that you have to drill holes with a 0.75" distance (about 19 mm). It is easy to check if you hold it in your hands.
It is standard so there are many plugs with such a distance. Even Europe mains plugs (Shuko, CEE7 etc) are made with the same distance.

Although in truth they are the same word, I have always used Centre to mean a place like a shopping centre and Center as a location like the center of the universe. I have never been corrected when doing that.
So that's like... when I find myself having to look for my center because my wife found her centre?
It's pretty simple, when you mark a hole to be drilled you typically make scribe marks horizontally and vertically and use a center punch to provide a registration for the drill bit. The center punch marks the center of the hole and for these sockets the specified spacing is 0.75" on the center punch marks or on center for shorthand.
We never say middle-to-middle though, nor "the centre of nowhere", nor "the middle of the universe". Language is nearly all irregular!
