What has gone wrong with VLC?

I am a long time user of the VLC player, but for several years now it seems to be broken in some ways: it never launches cleanly, always warns of problems or asks for an update (which does not improves matters).
Here is an example (sometimes it is different):

Why can it not just simply work properly.
I think I am going to switch to a less problematic application: any suggestion?

What's the OS?
What's in the log file?
In general, most often a library (native or os-depending) is broken.
Deinstall, clear prog folder, clear registry (win) / libraries (mac), clear or wipe leftovers, reboot, fresh install.
On Linux, an update should work.
Not a 100% remedy, fingers crossed.

I love vlc, only ever have minor hiccups when im playing incomplete or corrupted files.

VLC is free, so i dont know how or why anyone would have a 'hacked' copy.
otherwise i agree, a full uninstall and manual deletion with a new download and install from vlc.

Hi Elvee.
I don't like VLC much. It worked better in linux , luckily , because most players in linux kind of suck.
If you use windows , there are better players. My go to is MPC-BE , but sometimes you need another like for .ts files. PotPlayer or KMP are second choices.
They look nicer too standard, than the butt ugly VLC , (and yes I know about "skins" , if you like fiddling with them).

VLC is working, its the streaming link that is dead.

From their website - https://www.bide-et-musique.com/programme-webradio.html, there are two .mu3 streaming links, low quality and high quality.

The files contain two web links and for some reason includes the relay1 dead link.
This is the high quality .m3u file:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:-1,[RELAY1] - Bide et Musique - Varietes 70-80 - Paris France [HQ]
http://relay1.bide-et-musique.com:9100
#EXTINF:-2,[RELAY2] - Bide et Musique - Varietes 70-80 - Paris France [HQ]
http://relay2.bide-et-musique.com:9100

I have edited the .m3u file to remove the relay1 link. I have tested this in VLC.
You will need to remove the ".txt" from the end of the file name as this was required to attach the file to the forum.

I have used VLC player for some 17+ years on nearly every platform - Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Apple TV OS, and cell phones.
It has always worked well and is by far the most universal for every file type without messing with codecs.
Yes, it may not be the nicest looking player available, but I'll take solid functionality over appearance any day.

Try a google on vlc download and you often get hits from weird sites, often these are even listed above the official channels in the google results. Chances are high you get a copy there that is injected with some malware. VLC seems to be a very popular target for this kind of malware distribution.

I used it for a number of years for light-duty stuff. There was a persistent "bug", where the audio would drift out of tune, which I assume was deliberate to keep it aligned with the video frame rate. There was never a setting to prioritize audio quality and skip video frames instead.

Update:
thanks to @Indiglo advice, everything now runs smoothly.
The problem was originating from the source (bide-et-musique is a small amateur-runned website) and they do not have the means to do things professionally.
I have to make a number of operations instead of just clicking on the link, but it's worth the effort
