I use Volumio on a couple of my devices, and Squeezelite on top of Dietpi on the rest (I have 6 SBCs). Volumio is too difficult for the Pi Zero to run, but the Dietpi combo hits the sweet spot for those.
The LMS server sits on a Pi4 which is hooked up as my primary fileserver and adblocker. Volumio is run as a standalone player.
My three main listening setups use Daphile though. The SBCs are only for casual and secondary use.

I was using Volumio with Hifiberry Digi Pro+, until the last update.
Now i get the signal in a too high pitch, sounds they're on Helium. 😕
(tried booting a 2nd memory card, same effect.)
Maybe good time to switch to another option...

On Rp3 and Rp4 with the Digi Pro+ I've used DietPi and HifiBerryOS with Rune, Volumio or a system fed by my Roon Rock server. All work well together. I found HifiBerryOS the easiest to install and it just works.
MoOde & piCorePlayer
Are you gauging the interest in a certain RPi music player but you'd rather not name it...? Different people have different needs and different awareness on what can be achieved with a product.
An open minded person may be looking for:
- an application with a standalone web site
- an explicit web site for the application with less graphics and more info
- an application that is under constant review (addition of features, user- friendly, continuous updates)
- an application which is not geared generally towards a single commercial manufacturer
- an application that has stood the test of time

Moode. Because it was the first one to work with Spotify reliably. I could not make the piCore to work. I almost exclusively stream from Spotify controlled via iPhone/Android. And then I have three Chromecast Audio units🙂
I am using plain Raspbian on Raspberry Pi 3B+ with systemd and pulseaudio removed or disabled. I am booting the OS with sysvinit as systemd greeted me with an OS freeze, and I did not like that.
I play music using the command line interface through a terminal as it offers extremely powerful music track name filtering with a CLI command. The audio playback executables are mplayer, cvlc, vlc and mpg123. If I happen to want to play music using another computer, I use ssh. The sshd daemon is only started on demand and killed whenever not in use.
P.S.
I have mpd installed but I do not use it as it is extremely complicated to set up and makes assumptions as to how users manage their audio files. I want to have complete freedom in that.
The audio files are stored on the same SDCard used by the OS.

I've use Volumio to stream from Google Play and am happy with the sound. Volumio does not have native Google Play support, so I have to use BubblePnP on my Andriod phone to do all of this. I would actually like to avoid the complexity of rendering via BubblePnP.
My wife on the other hand only plays YouTube videos. Is there a RPi player that can stream from both a streaming site (Spotify eg) and from YouTube (sound only needed)?

Picoreplayer, with its Logitech user interface.
Moode, but wont show album covers due to my ancient router CIFS V1.
Volumio gave me the most problems with my I2C audio circuitry and I gave up after 3 tries with it.
...I need a better router to host my music collection, via USB connected SSD.
