Need help desparately...
I just finished building acustom fit box to hold a JL 13 TW5 sub and a Kenwood mono amp ( excelon xxv-03a from Craigslist), connected everything up, turned it on and ...NOTHING. None of the power led things light up at all. I checked the + - connections at the amp and it is getting power.
Some notes:
I have never installed an amp prior to this.
The head unit is set for subwoofer "normal"
The connections at the amp for power, on/off, input and output and ground are tight.
I have not yet checked the connections behind the head unit. However, thats next.
The amp's ground is connected directly to the car battery's ground. The run is less than 3 feet. In the back of my Mini Cooper, the box sits right on top of the battery- behind the back seat. I assume thats OK
I checked the in line 50 amp fuse and installed 3 new 25 amp fuses in the amp. The old ones weren't blown, but I'm grasping at straws here.
The "Amplifer Control" switch is set to ON.
It is possible that the used amp I bought is broken...but more likely something that I messed up.
I appreciate any suggestions. If the amp is bad, I'll look into repairing it, but don't want to go ther just yet...

If you place your black meter probe on the ground terminal of the amp and you read ~12v when you touch the red probe to the Batt and p. con terminals, the amp is likely defective.
You may also want to make sure the remote turn on for the amplifier is connected properly to the deck.
Thanks found the answer
I took the car to a local installer. He could tell with a tester that the remote turn on / off was getting no power. Since I already had the head unit hanging out of the dash, he just cut ther blue wire that appeared firmly attached to a wireing harness and spliced it to the blue wire coming directly out of the head unit. I should have been able to figure it ou myselft, but it was the best $25 I ever spent!
Anyway, now all is well with the world and I can go fiddle with the adjustments. and cover the box with carpet. I t should look pretty good when I'm done and perhaps be able to squeeze at least 3 shoping bags behind the back seat of my Mini Cooper.
Thanks for the help!

Yeah...I had that issue once...I had a wire conncected to my radio that I used for the remote turn on and I had Rockford Fosgate RCA cables, the kind that has a remote lead wire made into it, and I never used that wire. I just had it taped off so it wouldn't touch anything. I took the car to Circuit City so they could run the power wire through cause I was having issues and figured I would just pay them to do it and the guy hooked up the wire from the RCA cables to the remote connector on the amp and told me he thought my amp was defective and not working. When I showed him the right wire to connect to it, it turned right on. I thought to myself, "Oh god, what did I get myself into?" LOL Well it all worked out...
Point to that story was just that those remote wires can be tricky...Just make sure you check all your connections. Glad to hear you found what was wrong!! 😎

OK, done - sort of
Well after some angst, the sub turned out OK, even looks sort of professional if you don't look too closley. But now that I have a decent sub, it really points out the need sor some substantial sound deadening and the need for an additional amp for the head unit. Be for I had the sub, it seemed plenty loud, now it seems to distort a bit sooner than I sometimes want. The sub can really cause a lot of vibration in a mini cooper .
If anyone knows some functional alternatives to spending a fortune, on dynamat, please let me know. This project is a real learning process, but at least I can enjoy the results every day!
Thanks
