Hello,
What are the best types of wire to use internally, for woofer/mid/tweeter?
In other words, what gauge and construction for which purpose?
I used to use whatever speaker wire I would use from amp to speaker to each driver, but recently it was mentioned that it's preferable to use wire types which are suited to each driver to achieve a specific purpose..
IE: solid core is best for bass... a thin gauge might be used to drop a slightly loud tweeter rather than add a resistor, or, litz/braid/flat is better for something.... etc. etc.
BTW:
No offence intended... but to those who will almost inevitably chime in to say it all sounds the same and it doesn't make any difference... please refrain from posting.
We've all heard alllllll those arguments, and obviously don't agree with them if we're posting/reading/replying to this..
It gets tedious..... 😛
Thanks in advance!

Well, since you already have your mind made up and didn't bother to do a forum search, then why have you even posted? You're correct, it's tedious alright.
The "right environment" for electrons & magnetic field is the same for AC mains cable, line level & speaker level connections.
I've never been any good at coming up with effective search strings.and didn't bother to do a forum search
This is mostly a question of taste. I use Neotech OCC as this is likely the wire i have used elsewhere in the system. A smaller gauge for mids/highs. If one is partial to silver it would make sense to use it where it excels: for the tweeters.
basic good multistranded or solid copper wire of the right gauge is the most neutral, silver tend to favor treble. Fancy expensive brands are not needed. I tend to use the same generic OFC copper wire inside that i use to make speaker cables.
I mostly use potato wire for woofers, and banana wire for tweeters. I have an old thread about it somewhere. You should try it!
😀 That one still raises an evil grin.
Salt water for interconnects, anyone? How long before the pillocks start cranking out the hollow telflon tubes, and discussing with sage nods which natural sources (suitably concentrated) provide which sonic attibutes? Does water extracted from the Dead Sea render the music lifeless and grainy? Is a filling from Jon Juan Pond in Antarctia causing a chilly midrange?
Endless entertainment possibilities.

Hi Cal.
I'm open minded.
Would love to read about your knowledge of optimum wiring suitable for internal Loudspeaker wiring.
Variables I'm mindful of which might need to be tied down might be:
Copper purity.
Insulation material.
Thickness of cable.
Multi strand vs solid.
Directional.
Wire terminals vs direct solder.
Do these affect performance and are there specific products which are recommended?
I'm also becoming more aware of the weakest link in the signal path.
Depending on the quality of your Amp, Speakers, Speaker leads, Room acoustics, Music source, any internal wiring may or may not yield any improvement.
How I tackle things is to work on as many areas along the signal path which may influence sound reproduction.
That's all we can do.
Whether or not internal speaker wiring influences sound reproduction, I think it would be nice to engineer a solution which provides the greatest gain for the least outlay.
cheers
Cliff

You may have an issue with galvanic corrosion, distilled water would be a more reliable option. The speed of sound changes in distilled water.Salt water for interconnects,
I think ideally you should use a suitable size wire that doesn't mechanically stress the speaker push on / solder terminals.
