Which way do you look at a pot to determine pins 1, 2 & 3. With the shaft towards you and the pins pointing down?
Yes.
For an audio potentiometer:
Pin 1 is in ground in and out.
Pin 2 is the output.
Pin 3 is the input.
Nigel you're a star! I have wired Alps pots on many occassions and know which pins are which, but for the Lightspeed Attemuator you have to join one set of pins to the other from Pin 3 of the first set to Pin 1 of the second set. I couldn't find the definition anywhere!

Wow, in all my 55 years of soldering, I never once thought of pot terminals as having numbers. is that an artifact of computer-aided circuit design?
Me neither - except for CAD!
I just imagine turning the pot by its shaft and "picturing" what the wiper is doing as it rotates ...
