I have installed radios in my younger years and wish I would have kept the instructions. I am putting in a Sony Radio in a 1989 Ford RV. I disassembled the dash and pulled the wires out to match them up with my Sony Radio. Though, I am confused because the wiring is different from the present day diagrams. It has the standard Red switched power, Yellow 12vt constant, orange/white illumination with fuse (????), Dark Green/white with fuse (????). Then a Purple wire (Right Rear???), Green (Left Rear ????), White (Left front???), Blue (Right front????) and a Black and white wire??? I am assuming the black and white wire is the ground for all the speakers and would just be connected to all 4 color wires for the speakers. If I am correct on this what would be the ground for the radio? Also, what does the green and white wire with fuse go to if the orange and white go to the illumination. I am sure I have confused you because I am confused my self. lol Though, a picture is worth a 1000 words. Thanks for any help to save me time for testing every wire. 😕

With the few old school radio i have uninstalled the negative speaker wire was connected to the body of the radio. They had a long screw at the back with a bolt.
I wouldn't assume ANY of those wire colors match the current standards. Looking at the plug, I would guess that you have: 12V switched, 12V constant, ground, RF+, RR+, R-, LF+, LR+, and L-. I would also guess that the two fused leads are the 12V leads.
Is the female end of this plug hardwired into the harness? And do you have a multimeter, test light, etc?

Of the two 12V (with the fuses) one is powered all the time, and the other only when the ignition key is on Accessories (or Ign of course).
Don't recall old Sony's having fuses on green and orange, was usually Red and Yellow.
Looks like old Audiovox wiring. Orange and Green/white are power (as stated before), black is ground, for speakers also. Red, yellow, white and one of the blues are speaker positives. The remaining blue would be power antenna trigger. How's about a picture of the radio

Bingo! Now that I think about it, every 80's conversion van or RV I saw had an Audiovox radio. Good call.
