It uses the same wavelink async usb technology, no drivers needed at all, unlike all the m2tech hiface OEM usb interfaces out there. If you're like me and 99% of your library is red-book, then this is probably the best 16/44.1 spdif converter out there.
Comes with the ART U-Byte spdif cable (USD200), an upgrade over the freebie spdif cable that comes with the legato. The U-byte is no longer made because the costs have went up too much. More info on the u-byte and legato design here:

Analog Research SPDIF cables are available again
Also comes with a custom ART usb cable (USD50), 3m in length. Doesn't have the usb power wire in it, eliminating any possibility of noisy usb power coming in from the computer, keeping the usb data signal line clean.

Interesting read but I wonder why one would buy a USB to SPDIF converter to connect an older existing DAC (instead of a complete new well made USB DAC with good electronic properties and thus skipping the SPDIF with all its nasties) ?!?
Too bad that there are no pics of the internals as I like to see craftsmanship. Oh wait, I just see Jocko mocking again about people copying his design 😉
