I apologize in advance for this pretty roundabout and open-ended question, but my Xiang Sheng DAC-01A is having an issue. The tube output works perfectly, and the Op amp output used to work just fine as well. After a few years of use, the left channel of the Op amp output 'died'. I've tried other cables and rounded out all the easy/obvious stuff. The right Op amp out sounds fine, the tube out sounds fine. It's just the left Op amp out. I have no clue where to start looking. Some of the solder joints look dry/crusty, particularly the SMD's but overall nothing is loose/wiggling around.
This makes me curious. I just got a DAC-05B and want to swap in some Burson V6 Vivid's. The trace path makes it look like the 2 op amps further from the tube socket are separate from the tube output entirely, with the last op amp being part of the tube section. Since I'm not really interested, at the time, in even using the SS outputs, could I get away with one dual op amp in that singular position?
