Yamaha A1 integrated - preamp's quality?

I have the opportunity to purchase a Yamaha A1 integrated amp at a low price and am happy to service it myself.
I intend to use only it’s pre section teamed up with a my recapped Yamaha P2200.

Please could anyone comment on the quality of the A1’s pre amp?
I hear that the phono section is very very good, and I only need a couple of inputs.

Would the audio quality be as good as a Yamaha C4, or the pre in a CA1000, CR-1020 ?

Hi!
Phono preamp in A1 is absolutely top ligue, worth to try. It was designed and built for vinyl-lovers. There is a non compromise switch "DISC" for direct connection of the preamp to main amp.
Altough power amp is rather very good sounding (especialy after 2-3 hours of running), probably this is the only one Yamaha amp which deserves for the name Natural Sound.

Thanks Padamiecki, great to hear.
Unfortunately, I've just learned from the schematic that the "pre out" on this amp occurs after the power amp section. I had hoped to use all the muscle of the Yamaha P2200 for the power section. When you say "probably this is the only one Yamaha amp which deserves for the name Natural Sound," do you mean this as the highest complement?
Thanks again for your comments.

Hi,
pre out is something different, it is for connecting for example external power amplifier.
The signal from riaa pre is normal available from for example rec out cinch...
A1 has very well balanced sound, detailed, smooth, fast, deep bass, 3D depth, etc.
I did not hear MX10000 nor B1,2 but for me A1 is what might be called high end.
