Hi all,
I have an issue with a Yamaha RX-797 and was hoping this is the right place to start narrowing down the cause. I've had the amp for 5-6 years without any troubles, and then the other day it made some clicking noises when powering on, then turned itself off. Since then it hasn't turned on, however I can very occasionally hear a slight clicking around the transformer (I think that's what it is, 240 goes in and power is distributed from there) when pressing the power button.
I opened the unit up and cleaned it out with an air compressor then checked the fuse and capacitors which both look OK. I then followed the power circuit the best I could, reseating the connections to ensure everything was connected properly. Unfortunately, with little electronics background, I'm not not sure how to proceed from here.
One thing I have read while Google-ing is that sudden loss of power can cause troubles with Yahama power circuits, although I can't verify that. It would make sense though, as I've only been in my current house for six months or so, and we are constantly losing power (I live in a forested area and power supply is above ground). If I do get the unit up and running I'll certainly be getting a UPS.
Below are some images on the internals. Any suggestions on where to look next or possible causes would be greatly appreciated. Depending on the problem I might take a look at it myself, otherwise it'd be good to know if it's worth getting repair professionally. If anyone needs any more info, let me know.
Thanks everyone,
Billy
