MDS (Multiple Delta Sigma) and MMB (Multiple Multi-Bit) D/A conversion

The "multiple" means parallel DAC ICs. Accuphase employed this with (AFAIK) several PCM63's way back in 1991/1992:

In the late 1990s and into the 2000s, when DS DAC ICs began their ascent in popularity, Accuphase began to replace MMB with MDS:

(note that the topology is a bit different than paralleling multi-bit DACs, as in the first figure). From Accuphase product literature, I think the DS chip they use is from Analog Devices.

DIY fanboyz (and Chinese developers) of say a certain Philips TDA1387 8x (parallel)
-- among other -- pieces-of-kit take have certainly made their case for MMB.

I'm not sure whether any other audio manuf. ever implemented MDS; or project junkie here on "the Do"?

Since "last year's" DS chips (PCM1792, etc.) are dirt cheap on eBay (etc.), MDS projects may be interesting.
