I have a SONY HD TV, model: KDL-50W829B.
Problem is, when I switch it on the external power brick has a loud hum when the TV is switched on, there is no picture nor sound, the TV's backlight comes on and pushing buttons on the remote does nothing but makes the led on the TV flash.
If though I remove the PSU from the back of the TV the humming stops.
I'm hoping it's the PSU gone bad so it can't supply the right amount of current to properly turn on the TV, but, any ideas people of any other possibly faults?

Hi Russ, how would I do that? The TV is in pieces at the moment. Could I not just connect the electronics outside? The only thing that won't be connected would be the screen.
The circuit boards are the single side type, I have a capacitor test meter also but when I tested the caps in circuit (just after having the TV on) they had a 0 reading.
