^ we assume that is what the drive circuitry on the board is for. I would strongly suspect that 8 legged chip is a dual opamp and the four diodes are part of an active rectifier and peak hold arrangement with gain.
I didn't notice the driver at first, if the SIP IC PCB is also included then that's it, nothing else needed. Not sure what the 8-legged one is, unable to read marking..
The SIL version seems to have not been supplied but has been replaced with the 8 pin DIP one. Could be a 1458 or similar, it needs nothing better specced than that.
Yes, the coil would move with the music, no problem, but the levels / calibration could be different due to the logarithmic reading required (dB). Nevertheless, the OP could play a 0dB test tone & set the needle at 0dB and be happy with it.
