The new DDDAC1794MK3 (DAC and PSU) - Technical and support thread

As I just released the DDDAC1794MK3 series (Dac and PSU) I thought it might be a good idea to set up a support thread for technical and background question, discussion and support.

The release post is here: http://blog.dddac.com/the-new-dddac1794mk3-dac-and-psu/

For those already interested in the construction and installation manuals:

DAC: http://blog.dddac.com/wp-content/up...tion-DDDAC1794MK3-DAC-Version-2.6-rev-1.3.pdf
PSU: http://blog.dddac.com/wp-content/up...ction-DDDAC1794MK3-PSU-Version-2.5-rev1.3.pdf

I am not a great photographer, nor do I have a product photobooth, so here is a somewhat lousy picture of my test set-up:

  • Power transformer 2x12 Vac
  • double DDDAC PSU
  • two AE Chokes (my specs: Amorphe 1H 4 Ohm)
  • DAC Board DDDAC1794MK3
  • Sowter Output Transformers

looking forward to some good discussions :)

I think you have a point, it is not very clear. I will rework this text…

ok try again
each board has two channels with each 2 chips - so you can make stereo with each channel having 2 chips in parallel. like old two deck
each board can de assigned to only R or L signal and also have both channels of the board paralleled. Resulting in one board with mono L or R and 4. chips in parallel. if you use two boards, one as L and one as R in mono mode you will have stereo again with each L and R 4 chips in parallel. Like the old 4 deck.

hope I did not make it more complex. May be I should make a schematic drawing showing these two options

Ok, that's just what I thought. In the blog post maybe just remove the additional bullet point saying that "further paralleling is possible", because it seems it's actually not possible. 4 chips per channel is the max.

I would have preferred more chips in parallel (8 or even 16), but I guess you had your reasons to max out at 4.

Well, it is in fact possible, you can daisy chain more boards and parallel the outputs. If this is useful is unknown, as I did not test it sound wise.
i also recommended for the previous version to stop at 4 decks. Very few went beyond that because they just were intrigued and tried it. It does improve, but is it worth the extra cost ? I think no, but some went for “cost no object” after all it is a hobby….
