All open baffle

"would nearfield possibly be recommended?"

Here my measurements of a 12" driver without baffle. Practically dipole cancellation rules when distance is longer than baffle's shortest diameter

An acquaintance of mine has made some box speakers that use 14 small full range drivers per speaker to handle the mid-range. (There are others on this forum who are also aware of these speakers.) The sound quality of the mid-range is just superb - ESL like in its clarity and neutrality. This prompted me to think that a similar arrangement on OB might sound equally great if not better. So what do people think about this as a layout for the tweeter and mid range part of an OB speaker - the oblong in the middle would be a ribbon playing down to c. 1500hz:

I am using small 2way vifa bookshelf with small classD amp for computer.
When i replaced bookshelfs with small OB speakers, the ones bottom far right on the picture, sound was much more pleasing, even they were on the desk not too far from the wall.
They are four aura fullrange drivers with two mansoon planar tweeters per side. Not much signal below 100Hz. But with the sub hidden below desk, it would make great system.
