  • Old image attachment URL formats not displaying has been resolved
  • New posts occasionally not showing up on front page has bene resolved
  • Commercial sector block in the forums mega menu removed as this has been replaced by the dedicated Marketplace menu
  • "Find Content" menu renamed to "Find" on mobile
  • Standard XF 2nd level nav items are now in 2nd level nav on desktop and the "Find" menu on mobile. This adds quick links to "Mark forums read" as well as advanced search. Note that this nav is still not appearing correctly on several sub-pages currently.

Note: we have re-enabled adverts (these help fund the forum), but they should not show for paid members, only unpaid and not-logged-in. (There's an issue where the moderators will probably still see ads but that is another matter). If you are a paid member and do see an ad - please tag me or message me to let me know because that should not happen. (Nice to know what page you were on and where the ad was too if you have this issue).

  • "Live" updates on the front page that moved new posts around the page are now disabled
  • The "Forum Home" link on mobile has been renamed and link corrected so it now takes you to the home page for the forums (the list of all forum categories)
  • Tubes/Valves high voltage warning header updated to be less intrusive

Apologies for the lack of updates. Plenty has been happening behind the scenes. We have just deployed a bunch of fixes addressing bugs, mobile, UI, and QOL (quality of life) improvements:

  1. Breadcrumb: now includes a full path to the current page
  2. Thread titles:Clicking on thread titles now takes you to the last post if you have read a thread
    • If you have logged in, clicking on a thread title will take you to the first unread post. If you have read all the posts you will be taken to the last post (previously you would be taken to the first post)
    • Guest users are always taken to the first post as XF has no native way of determining the last post you have read. In the medium term we may develop a solution for this to improve guest browsing experience.
    • For both guest and logged-in members, clicking the "X minutes ago" will always take you to the latest post
  3. Mobile: The site home recent threads now shows the last poster's name so you can see who made a post.
  4. Jump to new / Jump to latest: At the top of all threads there is now a "Jump to new" and "Jump to latest" button in the top RHS, that shows the appropriate text depending on whether you are logged in and where you are up to in reading through a thread.
  5. Home page ATF (above the fold) cleanup
    • "User posts" and "commercial posts" options have been removed from the top of the front page, they were taking up valuable ATF (above the fold) real estate, especially important on mobile. This also allowed us to remove the big "Threads" dropdown. Please use the filters to drill down into the areas you like.
    • Card display: The option to display recent posts using a card format has been removed. The triumvirate of "List/Card/Set as Default" was taking up valuable ATF screen real estate. As it shows a chunk of the first post, it is not particularly well suited to diyAudio's "long thread" format. It is more suited to forums where new topics are constantly rolling in.
  6. Front page font styles: Many font sizes and font weights have been standardized now allowing for improved VH (visual hierarchy) and page scannability.
  7. Time formats: We have been unable to get our developers to implement human friendly dates in the way we wanted, so we have reverted to standard XenForo recent date abbreviations.
  8. 2nd level navigation: Font styles have been standardized.
  9. PPP(Posts per page).
    • We have activated a module that allows you to choose your own number of posts per page (10, 20, 50, 100)
    • Before migration the default PPP was 10. After migration it was updated to the XF default of 20. This caused many old links (that were incorrectly created with URLs that referenced page number rather than post number) to break.
    • While we think 20 is a nicer default, now that you can choose whatever number you prefer we are changing the default PPP back to 10. This will cause those links to work again for people who are sticking with the default (now back to 10). Just like pre-migration those links will not work for anyone who has a different PPP to you.
    • Please keep in mind that any link that references a page number is an incorrect link. It will not work for anyone who does not have the same PPP as you do. Please use the link icon in the top RHS of every post to get a correct PPP-independent link that everyone will be able to use to find the post you're trying to send them to.
    • In the medium term our plan to fix this issue is to scan through all 7M posts on the forum and update any "bad" links to the new "good" link format that is PPP independent.
  10. Link "unfurling": Based on the rationale in this post, link unfurling has been disabled until we have a better solution as the benefits of having it turned on do not outweigh the negatives of having incorrect preview text for links to every internal diyAudio post that is not post #1.
  11. Classic theme: Background behind the logo is now transparent
  12. Mobile header ads: For those who have not turned ads off, ads have been moved below the first post on a page so you are not presented with an ad immediately, and can enjoy reading the first post and deciding if you want to read further.

Progress has slowed the last month or two due to reasons. Today we have a bunch of fixes:

  1. Donors page spelling error corrected, more fixes to this page coming in the future
  2. Spelling issue with intro block fixed, studio -> audio
  3. Home link in breadcrumb fixed
  4. Suppression list removal tool had stopped working, this is now working
  5. Images which relied on the SSL certificate for origin.diyaudio.com to be working had died, this has been fixed

There has been some internal discussion about how inactive threads can best be handled. Often the participants in a 10 or 20 year old thread are now inactive or the details being discussed have been superseded by other discussions. To best handle this...
  1. Threads over 18 months old now have a click-through warning asking members to think if they should start a new thread or bring the thread back to life
  2. Threads over 3 years old are now closed for posting automatically. If you'd like to re-open one, please use the "report post" button to request the mods to re-open the thread.

  1. You can now choose between 3 different combinations of date format and between 12-hour and 24-hour time display, using the language chooser dropdown in the footer or your account preferences.

There is also some disharmony across the site in terms of how alternative versions of dates and times are displayed in various places to save space or try to be more useful, and this will be worked on in the near future.

To prevent rampant unnecessary quoting of the last post in a thread, and reduce the amount of redundant clutter that must be skipped over when reading through a thread, the following has been done:

  1. The last "reply" button in a thread has been removed. We had this pattern pre-migration to XF, and it worked wonders. This will encourage people to not quote the last reply, however you absolutely can still select text from any post (including the last one) and click the "Quote" button that appears under your cursor (both desktop and mobile)
  2. The word "reply" has been changed to "quote". We feel this is more meaningful as to the purpose of the action. The functionality remains unchanged.
Secondly, this "changelog" thread has been moved to "Forum Announcements". Also in the the near future "forum problems" and "new platform issues" will be merged.
