This sounds juicy Allen. Can you post a more detailed bug report, as I'm new to the whole HTML5 browser-supported lazy loading stuff. Are you using incognito mode? A quick StackOverflow search suggests that browser cache should be respected. Possible cache-control headers on the images? Do you have an example URL and I'll pull the headers for the images and try to test further.
If that is right then it looks like I'm wrong. This is a subjective observation.
I see placeholders, expanding spaces, images appearing in stages etc. Timing seems to suggest this.
I'm now going to clean my browser, I'm not aware of a reason it should be out of its depth at this point.
