UHER 4000L

Posted 15th July 2011 at 01:01 AM by Aunson

I have a Uher 4000L had perfect clear audio sound a few months ago. The sounds has now slowly deteriorated to a scratchy and harsh tone you can barely hear the content. Any thoughts? TY

Ok, a real post.

Just finished up my last iteration of my current main speaker, so I figured I'd post a couple of pictures.

Energy Connoisseur C-3 Crossover Modified

Posted 10th July 2011 at 01:48 PM by tuantran
Updated 13th June 2012 at 02:48 AM by tuantran

I have modified another pair of Energy Connoisseur C-3 crossovers with V-Cap OIMP 250V capacitors(1uF, and 4uF), ClarityCap ESA 250V capacitor(15uF),Mills 12W resistors(5.6 Ohm, and 2.7 Ohm). The two inductors( 1.2mH laminated , and 0.5mH air core)are left untouched. Although V-Cap OIMP capacitors are not polarized, the outermost foil (short lead) must be connected towards the negative input of speaker. It is best to keep lead orientation consistent for 1uF and 4uF capacitors. It takes 200 hours of music listening in order to hear the clear sounds from the speakers with V-Cap OIMP in the crossovers. The speakers sound so smooth, clear with V-Cap OIMP capacitors. V-Cap OIMP capacitor may be one of the best capacitors for speaker crossover.

Regarding the I2S lines

Posted 8th July 2011 at 01:19 PM by arumugam

Hi,

I have an Issue in my system to interface the I2S lines interface with Digital amplifier.I have the seperate signal processing board and I'm taking the I2S,BCLK,LRCLK outputs through Buffer(74LVC244) and in AMP board the signal is mapped to I2S to PWM converter.I placed a series termination resistor as 47E in all the signal lines in AMP board. In this condition,I could not listen the audio in the speaker and when I change the BCLK resistor as 1K keeping the other resistors as 47R then I could listen the audio output. Here I'm using the single core shielded cable with the length of 30cm to interface the amp and signal processing board..

Could anyone advice me reason behind this cause?

Thanks in Advance-Arumugam.

Grounded Grid Preamp

Built from the kit from Bruce Rozenblit. Very nice one, but is not being used - it has too much gain for any of my systems. I will probably sell it.

New mobile phone

Posted 6th July 2011 at 05:50 AM by abraxalito
Updated 8th September 2011 at 03:08 AM by abraxalito

My trusty HTC Touch Pro2 kept dialling my last caller last week without my permission so I decided it was overdue for retirement. Can't say as I've ever really bonded with this phone - mainly due to the pants Windows Mobile 6.1.

Last Sunday I went into the Meizu shop and snapped up their M9 to replace it with. This is the first phone (out of 8 I think) I have bought based primarily on the OS (Android) rather than the hardware. That's evidence for the disruptive marketing behaviour of Google in the mobile space. Android wasn't quite available when I upgraded to the HTC around 2 years ago. Now they're claiming around 0.5million activations each day.

One interesting facility in the network menu settings is:

3G networks - turn off to save battery life and stabilize signal

I'd heard that running 3G soaked up juice but this 'stabilize signal' is a first on me. Its quite something when a new technology has the facility to disable it...

recapping Linn Linto

Posted 1st July 2011 at 01:28 PM by Donuk

Hi
I used to be an elecrical engineer years ago. Now I am retired and a bit rusty. My Linto is an early one, so it is well over ten years old. Can somebody tell me:
1) Would there be sonic advantages in replacing the electrolytic capacitors?
2) What affordable make of capacitor would be best - also which would not significantly change the overall tone of the unit?
3) There are a lot of capacitors inside. If I should change only some, which ones to go for.
Thanks
Don
