I just started a new amp and tested the hFE using a mega328
The hFE reports as 128 to 237 for the 1943 and 73 to 112 for the 5200
Only two pairs came close to being nearly similar hFE. Enough for one ClassAB amplifier from 100 transistors bought at different times from two UK retailers.

They look real enough.
Fakes are often shiny and have lighter ink on them. But no way of knowing for sure!
Don't buy on Ebay 🙂 There are some real stores that have the real thing in stock.

Look fake to me?
As with all things electronic I would suggest to only order from a reputable source, when bought off of eBay or in China you can pretty much count on parts being fake. One source that I know to offer genuine parts is Profusion in the UK, at $2.33 a piece they aren't exactly breaking the bank.

You'll sleep even less if it's fake and blows, taking your speakers out and damaging parts inside your amp.
From my experience with these devices, I can say for sure, they are genuine. I can get a pair here for a little less than 2 USD.
I want an European supplier ,are you sure that Profusion is genuine parts supplier?
I'm sorry, but Profusion now lists the supplier as 'other' hence these are not genuine Toshiba parts. I have however ordered genuine Toshiba parts from them in the past.
Mouser fortunately carries original Toshiba:

It doesn't matter for these transistors,i speak generally .

What a cool little gadget ! But , it also only tests hFE @ 9V - like the DMM 's.
I am trying some of the ideas in the ESP project 31 and my big MT-200 sankens
come much closer in gain tested with 35V and at higher currents.
the DMM is good for the small signal devices , but the big ones need more (V+I).

In my city I can get a pair for 2.4 USD (2 USD the last time I purchased). Initially I was worried with the build quality (especially the printing) but after comparing with many other transistors (which are original) I don't care even if they are fake because they are so good.
Sanken in MT-200 package anyhow, I wont bother.
